As playing music is not considering as a job in Iran, especially for women (due to Islamic laws) her family didn't take her interest to music serious. She continued studying and gave her dream up for a while. After finishing high school and finding herself accepted in different universities, finally she made her decision and started playing bass guitar;
After a year she joined an all female Heavy/Thrash Metal band named Kraken as bass player and played cover songs from bands like Megadeth, Metallica, Carcass and Death with the band.
While she was working more on her vocal abilities in Music Conservatory, she found herself more interested in singing than playing bass guitar and started recording demos and home.
She released her Debut single, The Savior in autumn 2005 and the result was good feedbacks from her teachers and friends and it gave her more positive energy to work more on her music as a singer. and instead of studying what she doesn't like she started studying music in Tehran Music Conservatory.
In summer 2007 she performed in N! gathering which was a underground event held in Karaj, and got arrested and sentenced to jail for couple of days for performing music in public. After all problems and troubles she faced 'cause of being a female singer in an Islamic country and working with wrong people she started a new act named "The Plastic Wave" with her friend, Saeid. They wrote and recorded couple of songs together and got invited to perform in SXSW festival 2009 in Austin/Texas. Unfortunately "The Plastic Wave" didn't make it to USA due to visa issues.
Except "The Plastic Wave", Maral has performed with 2 other bands, "5grs" and "White City".
White City is an international Progressive Lo-Fi band based in Kabul/Afghanistan, started by people from different countries who live and work in Kabul.
Maral was invited to the band as guest vocalist for their tour in Tajikistan by Travis Beard, band's bass player, who met Maral while he was working on an article about Iranian Forbidden Music Scene.
Maral joined 5grs after band's singer, Sanam, decided not to perform with the band in their show in Metal Front fetival in Yerevan/Armenia. 5grs is the first Heavy/Thrash Metal band with female vocalist in Iran.
Maral is personally very influenced by Madonna and Sherly Manson (Garbage) and bands like Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails. She enjoys performing on stage more than anything in the word.
